Useful Tips
-The individual fibers that make up chopped strand mat are held together by an adhesive binder that is designed to break down in polyester and vinyl ester resins.
How Much Resin Do you Need?
-Fiberglass mat requires approximately 1.5 to 2 times its own weight in resin for complete saturation.(example: 1LB of mat needs 1.5 to 2 LBS of resin). Most resins weigh about 9-1/2 LBS per gallon.
What is Fiberglass?
Fiberglass is a fiber-reinforced polymer, which is made from fine glass fibers and then reinforced with a plastic Binder or “matrix”. This plastic matrix may be epoxy, a thermosetting plastic such as polyester, vinylester or a thermoplastic
The Glass fibers are formed when thin strands of silica-based glass are extruded into many small diameter fibers that can be used for textile processing. While fiberglass is lightweight and strong it has physical properties are lower that those of Carbon Fiber, and is also less stiff. Fiberglass is however less brittle and the raw materials are less expensive.
Some common uses for fiberglass include boat repair, Automotive, Surfboards and high performance aircraft.
Great to have a local fiberglass supplier in the Charleston area. Very competive pricing & knowledgeable staff.
Your pricing on chop strand fiberglass per roll is amazing. My custom shop has been looking for a supplier that would work with us on materials because we aren’t ordering pallet’s of fiberglass at a time. Not only were you willing to work with us, but you also gave us a price with shipping that was far better than everyone else we spoke to. Your shipping was fast and your customer service rep was patient and considerate. You have earned a repeat client today.
